Jaywalk's Services
My mission at Jaywalk is to uplift the mental health and emotional wellbeing of internationals in Denmark. Through therapy I support their integration and personal growth by creating a space for reflection and purposeful action.
I know that living across cultures can stretch people to their limits. The strain can intensify difficulties in how peope relate to themselves and to others, cause old patterns to resurface, and make decisions that once felt simple seem confusing. A profound lack of meaning and belonging threatens people's identity and wellbeing.
I have a wealth of experience in helping internationals navigate the challenges they commonly encounter. You can read about some of the typical struggles below or jump directly to the practical information.

Identity & Belonging
As humans we draw part of our identity from the social groups we belong to. When internationals move to Denmark, that part of identity can become unstable. They might ask, 'Who am I if I am different from you?' or, even worse, 'Who am I if I am different from you and you treat me as inferior?' In therapy we work to build a coherent sense of identity and belonging that is grounded in your particular circumstances.

Depression & Anxiety
When life becomes overwhelming, the psyche tries to meet the challenges. Often this shows up as an activation of the body’s stress systems. You may notice anxious symptoms physically, mentally, and emotionally. If the pressure continues, the psyche can shift into a protective shutdown, leaving you in a state of depression, drained of energy, hope and the capacity to enjoy life. In therapy, you can gain the clarity and strength to act in new ways.

Expat Grief
No one comes to Denmark hoping for a worse life. Most people arrive with expectations of a positive change. When those expectations fall short, it is common to pass through phases of regret, doubt and grief about what was left behind. Our choice to leave close family, a social network or a previous career can become a source of grief. In therapy you can reflect on these losses, find meaning in your life here and take practical steps forward.

Loneliness
As humans, we are biologically wired for social connection. In Denmark it is notoriously hard for newcomers to build friendships. Over time, a lack of meaningful relationships will erode self esteem and leave people feeling profoundly lonely. The language barrier can aggravate this sense of separation. Learning about Danish social norms and developing ways to connect that suit your values and situation can help you connecting with people.

Work & Stress
Navigating the Danish workplace can be stressful when it threatens one's identity. Feeling different, being treated differently and trying to make sense of these experiences often trigger coping strategies and drain emotional energy. In therapy we explore how you respond to the culture at your workplace and develop practical strategies to help you bring your best self to work while managing the extra challenges of being an international.

Partner and Family Tensions
The strain of living across cultures affects all family members, though their situations often differ. One partner may be employed while the other cannot find work. Children may be navigating their own integration at school. Varying roles and expectations, along with worries and fears, create friction and resentment between partners and family members. In therapy, you have a safe space to untangle your thoughts and map out practical solutions.
